An extremely detailed reglamento issued by Charles III to establish and maintain the 15 presidios that were to become the northern line of defense of New Spain, as well as other military garrisons of the north. Included are the numbers and ranks of soldiers at each location, then proposed pay, uniforms, and duties, as well as numerous incidentals concerning the proposed defense line. (G. Miller) (1977)

Discusses Seri and Apache hostilities and the movement of Pitique presidio within two leagues of Populo. States that some Populo land and all Angeles land should be taken from Seris and given to presidiales and that Seris should all be resettled in Populo and Nacameri after they are conquered. Notes transfer of missionary personnel throughout Sonora. Notes that Apache attacks around Movas caused by Apache prisoners who escaped a Collera headed south. (T. Sheridan) (1978)

Criticizes Rodriguez Gallardo's proposals concerning formation of new settlements along frontier, stating that population concentration will encourage more Apache attacks. Argues that, la jente Es la que falta en esta provinzia. Discusses proposal to move Terrenate presidio to land of Pimas Sobajipuris (Sobaipuris). States that many missions could unite because epidemics have depopulated many areas. Notes that many Spaniards have abandoned frontier, leaving only Indians. Vividly describes Apache menace. Urges more soldiers be assigned to frontier. Suggests reassignment of existing presidiales among six frontier presidios. Makes numerous suggestions for reorganization of presidial duties.
