Summary
Guindo (marques de San Miguel de Aguayo's agent) accuses Ossorio (corregidor of Zelaya) of having extorted the residents of the city by putting them in jail and confiscating their possessions in order to force them to go to the presidio of Texas. Guindo was in charge of moving the people, and in his report provides a complete list of them including name, age, ethnic filiation, marital status, number of children (if any) and a physical description of each adult male (total 117). Almost all of them are said to have been in prison for one or one and a half months before the expedition. A medical doctor examined all of them and those who were sick are listed with a description of the desease. The authorities send an agent to Zelaya to find out about the accusations. He takes declarations from several vecinos but none of them support the charges against Ossorio. Prospective soldiers were imprisoned because most of them were vagrant and fled to the countryside when they knew about the levy. Therefore, Ossorio had to send commissaries to bring them back, and had to keep them in jail in order to provide the number of persons he was required to have, but he did not take any profit out of it. Finally, Ossorio wants to start a process against Guindo for calumny. (A. Nielsen, November 1989)

Summary
Series of documents concerning the request by Antonio Gonzales Tellez, Piloto of the Navio San Lorenzo, to stay in the port of San Blas and to post guards around ship until he is recovered from an illness and can go on to Sonora, his destination. He is concerned about the poverty of the area and wants protection while being detained. Tellez is given permission to continue his office as Piloto de la real Armada and is given 200 pesos to outfit his March to Sonora. F. 344 is a brief treasury report. Summary
Concerns current issues in missions. List of mission populations. Palou suggests need for severe punishment due to Indians' insolence. Cites examples of theft and attacks. says soldiers refuse to punish Indians because they are later blamed for Indian desertion. Ramos has followed instructions of visitador general to make progress in material aspects of mission by placing mayordomos in charge of Indians, proof of which appears in October inventory. says progress threatened by theft and destruction by Indians. Requests Barri not to impose order ridding missions of mayordomos claiming a loss in production would occur. Contains count of mules and horses. Guicuras dying of syphilis. Suggests forming Spanish population in Todos Santos. Suggestions for resolving problems including transfering priests and ways to calm and establish Indians. (M. Dannemiller, March 1988)

Summary
Concerns relocation of Indians who do not adapt. Many Indians keep returning to hills. Galvez wanted to make an example of one Indian. He was convinced by priest to have a sermon on the advantages of missions and threat of punishment. Relates theft of all food and provisions for priest's journey. Results in second priest being sent to assist Ramos. Half Indian population Dies due to disease and others continue to revolt. Concerns Indian request to remove Ramos due to harsh punishments. Later two Indians discovered to have threatened group to request this. Iniciators punished and others pardoned. Issue continues and struggle ensues between Ramos and Matias who grants Indians' wishes. Relates problems of Todos Santos mission to conflicts in San Diego. Describes power struggle between mission and military leaders in all areas. Request for Verger to provide solutions by delegating specific powers to missions. (M. Dannemiller, March 1988)

Summary
Guifas wrote several letters to the viceroy complaining of Younger officers being promoted over him. Francisco Lazaya promoted to second alfarez. Guifas describes in detail the military careers of his Father, Jose Manuel Guifas, and his Brother. Guifas' Father was a leader in the conquest of Nueva Tamaulipas. Two sargents, with less experience, were promoted over Guifas. Guifas threatened to retire if no action was taken. Guifas wrote of same problems to gobernador Diego Savaga. Viceroy sends letter recommending that Guifas receive the next available promotion. Letters from fellow officers stating Guifas unworthy of promotion. Guifas writes several letters to viceroy explaining his recent illness. Detailed physical description of Guifas. Testimony from Manuel lornos concerning military conduct of Guifas and fellow soldiers. Guifas received bloodletting treatment for his illness. Guifas' captain Mungier reported that Guifas had stolen military livestock. Guifas suspicious that his captain and wife are having a liaison. Guifas wrote letter to viceroy accusing the captain of misconduct and denied the charges of extortion. Guifas wrote that captain had conspired to kill him. Guifas blinded due to illness. Wrote requesting overdue promotion and disability due to blindness. Requested permission to go to Mexico to be cured of illness. Wrote concerning financial problems. Guifas inherited land and five slaves upon mothers death. Juan de Sosaya gained control of Guifas' land. Land planted in Maguey. Sosaya producing Mezcal and selling for 20 pesos per barrel. Guifas wanted action taken to regain control of land. (K. Mccaston, September 1989)
