Fiscal responses by which virrey does not approve the haciendas de las misiones de California exemption from payment of Alcabala for the year of 1786. The document mentions that the king did not approve the exemption of payment of Alcavala, since it is expected to benefit the haciendas but not the Indians; therefore, it is said, servants should be paid in kind; if they are paid otherwise, they will expend the money in alcohol and bad habits. The final response orders the haciendas de California and its servants to pay derecho de Alcavala. (R. Gomez, October 1988)

Discourse from Lumbreras, commander of presidio of Buenavista to viceroy Bucareli y Ursua concerning atrocities committed by Piatos and Pimas Bajos in Vicinity of aforementioned presidio. Atrocities include pervasive cattle and horse rustling, murder of Indians and a Spaniard, abduction of Indian woman. Lumbreras adds that he has no spare forces to battle unrest, and requests detachment of 20 or 30 soldiers be stationed at San Jose de Pimas to suppress Piman bellicosity and guard road to Cieneguilla. He also adds that lawless behavior manifested by Indian groups is result of semi-nomadic lifestyle. Included is letter to Lumbreras, forwarded to viceroy, from missionary at Tecoripa describing events which corroborates information given by Former. In responses to autos, viceroy suggests that Lumbreras commence further reduccion of barbarous Indians, using force if necessary; letter authorizing installation of Trespalacios as lieutenant of flying company of Buenavista upon retirement of Viarraga from position. Summary
Administrative documents primarily from governador Barri to virrey. Ff 20 contains interesting table of Indian hostilities from 1771-1776; lists numbers of dead and persons taken captive, ranches and haciendas depopulated, and cattle robbed from various administrative units of Nueva Vizcaya. Ff 54 contains a table of wine and aguardiente production in some jurisdictions. Many documents deal with conduct of prisoners to capital and expenses prisoners had to pay for said conduct. Teniente Yarto informed of Barri's death in February, 1784, and continues on as interim governor. August, 1784 Velazquez accepts governorship. (D. Marksz, March 1987).
