Description
Detail of "Damson plum." The fruit reminds me somewhat of Prunus americana. This is a large type - larger than the average. There is one green fruit in the photo. Called m pinji - and said to be an excellent oil tree - seed excellent to eat and when crushed form a very fine salad oil - much superior to peanut. The rind is bitter and when stewed also tastes bitter but it is much like a Prunus americana in that respect. [Shantz travel journal, Nov. 29, 1919]
