Letters from justicias mayores to viceroys Mayorga and Galvez advising and requesting not to accept peace requested by Apaches Lipanes in Santander due to historical avoidance in order to maintain peace of Indians with Spaniards and other tribes friendly to Spaniards. Justicias mayores detail attacks on towns and haciendas enumerating depredations which include killings by burning of children and women, carrying some prisoners as slaves and tortures of same. Included are documents about depredations carried out by Comanches whose union with Taguayares and Texas have become a force which is very difficult to deal with due to few soldiers in presidios and detachments in towns. Summary
Lengthy document about removal of Ugalde from governorship of Coaguila by Caballero de Croix. Ugalde complains that without being notified of reasons for his removal he was sent to Mexico to wait decision of king; his salary was cancelled as well. He states needing money and having to sell his jewels to support himself. He requests title of brigadier and another position in New Spain or in Peru. He includes a relacion of his military background. Description of military career of his paternal and maternal relatives. Description of his military career in Europe, Africa, and America. He gives a detailed account of his military campaigns against the Apaches. Description of battles, number of soldiers involved, number of Indians killed, captured, and horses, cattle and weapons recovered from the Indians. Ugalde also includes many letters sent to him by various people congratulating him for pacifying the area. Other letters deal with king's decision to appoint Ugalde as comandante de Armas, and to pay back his salary. (J. Tapia, March, 1988)

Summary
Documents deal with E. Barry's request to be allowed to marry M. de la Paliza. Copy of testimony by several people that Paliza is legitimate daughter of J. a. Lopez de la Paliza and C. Gil de Corona. Detailed testimony by several persons of limpieza de sangre of la Paliza lineage. Lineage is traced back to Spain with mention of Noble background of family; mentions that in lineage there is no bad blood, such as that of moors, jews or other castes. (J. Tapia, March 1988)

Letter to viceroy with account by Gallardo of exploration in California, pacification of Indians, discovery of los Angeles bay, establishment and construction of Santa Gertrudis mission; his return and imprisonment by capitan of garrison in conjunction with two missionaries and his ruin when captain of garrison stole his papers and wife's jewelry; missionaries promised him death if truth was ever known.
