Summary
Tovar, Diaz de Luna, Soler being retired from campaign; describes dealings with Cumpa, Guero, Yagonxli at Principe. Campaign in which Tovar led troop of Gilenos, Opatas, Chiricahuas into Chiricahua mountains against hostiles campaign failed to find any Indians, only 14 abandoned rancherias at Pina. Reports on loss of horses, one Dies from Pimas, Opatas campaign against Apaches at Florida mountain. Mention of tren. Frequent mention of lack of water, even at tinajas and Cienegas. (A. Discusses formation of cavalleria; number of horses; problems with yerva seca the horses eat; problems had when presidio was without a captain; situation with local Indians -- detailed report, including copy of reports from V. Rodriguez, on encounters with Indians, Indian activities, and Indian supplies and weapons (ff. 185-1920); problems at San Saba and with establishing missions in that area. (S. Fiederlein, 3-20-87)
