Chronological description of an expedition undertaken with the purpose of enlarging Spanish influence in the province of Texas. This expedition was sent a result of French involvement in that area. The author puts great emphasis on the types of vegetation (ie, Mezquites, Alamos, Sabinos, Robles, Nogales, etc.) and animals (deer, rabbit and a detailed description of the Zibolo or toro Mexicano) found on their way. Describes the re-establishment of previously abandoned missions and the incentives given to the Indians to live around them. A 'cedula' of the king (included at the end of the document) forbids them to make war against the French while on this expedition. (E. Klien) (1978)

A Series of documents concerning a Spanish/French border dispute over the Rio Colorado (Rio Roxo). The French had moved the presidio de Nachitos across the River into what the Spanish claimed as their territory. The Spanish also suspected (and had evidence of) the French trading with Indians in Spanish territory; the Indians had become loyal to the French as a result. Contains info. On presidio organization and strength. Also, population figures for some Indian villages are given. Lists goods and their quality involved in French/Indian trade. Page 272- Despacho real declaring embargo against France and England. Page 400- to conde de Galve ordering title of marques be given Toribio Huerta and that Huerta be consulted and supported. Gives brief description of Huerta's activities in New Mexico. Page 404- copy of memorial sent with Despacho of page 400. This document includes a good description of the Texas Indians culture; their land, agriculture (corn, beans, squash, watermelon, cantelope). Names all the tribes between Coahuila and the Texas Indians. The author discusses the importance of colonizing the province of Texas so as to keep it from French influence.
