Royal decree that further to the abolition of the inquisition all memorials of penalties inflicted by the inquisition - pictures, inscriptions, etc, be erased or removed from churches, convents and all public palces, within three days of receipt of the decree. Reasons for the abolition are given - the abuses and excesses of the inquisitors the secrecy of the system in which the accused can be condemned without ever facing his accuser etc. The Cortes decides that the inquisition is contrary to the constitution.
