A petition on the part of several priests for past salaries. The document contains supporting testimony by civil and military authorities regarding the work of the curas in the area. Provincial writing to his procurador to prepare an accurate list of the active missions and their personnel so that the royal stipends can be requested on a sound Basis a situation which did not always exist in the past. Apparently royal officials were placing pressure to receive this list. Mention is made of the secularization effort of the 22 Sinaloa missions attached are the complete lists as requested. With names of all personnel and missions and an explanation of the method used to catalogue the missions and difficulties inherent in the same. (D. Deeds) (1977)

Lengthy Series of documents dealing with priest Valdez request to receive payment of sinodos for 23 years for serving missions and visitas of Rahun, Potan, and Belen; he argues he never received money with exception of $500 pesos once, and now that he is ill and old he needs some money. Request is accompanied of several documents testifying to all his good deeds accomplished in those missions; there is mention of his good treatment of Indians and that in many Cases he assisted Fueros in the pacification of some Indians. Revilla Gigedo orders that this request should be studied to See if Valdez merits the sinodos. several government officials agree with Valdez statements and write to Corvalan to verify payment of $500 pesos. it is discussed that Valdez had previously requested sinodos and that marquez de Croix had denied it. Investigation of Croix rejection reveals that secular priests established in those missions after Jesuit expulsion were not supposed to receive sinodos, but were to live from the food raised in the missions as well as from contributions. Obispo requests adjustments to salary to cover travel and living expenses; Croix writes virrey on Obispo's behalf, stating that funds of comandancia insufficient to meet Obispo's request; increase granted. (L. Kerr, April 1989)

Martinez Caballero request funds withheld by the bishop of Sonora and owed him for work at the Bacadeguachi mission; Ugarte y Loyola writes Nunez de Haro y Peralta regarding report on Martinez C.'s sinodos, complaints by Indians of Martinez C. And therefore does not wish to grant Martinez C.'s request. 1208 pesos confiscated from Martinez C. To be used for Bacadehuachi mission improvements. (L. L. Woodward, August 1989)

Discussion of lack of treasury funds to pay Franciscans and buy paraphernalia at new missions of Revilla, Escandon, and Aguayo. Report that missionaries' salaries for the other 12 Nuevo Santander missions have been paid and list of areas of mission settlements with brief note on location and population, number of troops and captain. Avilez discusses extreme poverty of missions Guazave, Tamasula and Ucoroni under his care; 500 pesos back salary is owed him, following order from Croix to pay mission personnel 250 pesos per year.
