Distribution of guns to inhabitants El Paso by order of viceroy to March against rebel Pueblo Indians to reconquest lands lost. Various autos, letters and diary of March along shores of Rio del Norte, finding burned towns, churches, convents and general destruction and killings. Otermin orders investigation thru trial of various Indians to find heads of rebellion. Systematic destruction of Indian icons, burning of grain and raising of remaining towns. 1621 inhabitants in Oposura, Cumpas. People both pueblos speak Hore (Opata dialect). Inhabitants Oposura gente ladina because of presence Spanish miners San Juan Bautista 7 leagues away. People work in mines, raise abundant harvests, live in flat-roofed houses, have beautiful 3 Nave church, good religious band. Indication some problem caused by wage work in mines, however. 1335 inhabitants Conicari, Tepahue, Macoyahui, Batacosa Rancheria, real de minas Redras Verdes. Area ethnic frontier. Some Indians Conicari Mayos, others Conicaris, cahita group speaking own language. Inhabitants Tepahue cahita group who understand cahita but spoke Tepahue. Musical instruments include sackbut (sacabuche). People especially devoted, gather Voluntarily on saturdays to say rosaries. Mentions epidemic which killed many small children. Inhabitants Macoyahui speak Macoyahui (probably other cahita language). Christians but a little rough (toscos), fond of drinking. Pueblos, especially Macoyahui, located in mountains near Rio Mayo. 1431 inhabitants divided among 4 major pueblos (Alamos, Matape, Rebeico, Nacori). Frontier area encompassing various Opata groups, Lower Pimas. Notes presence Jesuit collegio in Matape. States inhabitants speak hogue, work in/sell crops to mines/haciendas region. Mentions group 70 people from hacienda Santiago de Toapa living in Pueblo. Inhabitants Nacori speak hoba among themselves, hegue with others. (different Opata dialects?) Otherwise, customs, religious devotion similar to Matape. Possess band musicians with trumpets, oboes, chabeboa, flutes, harp, guitar, bassoon. Inhabitants Alamos speak hegue, also have musical band. 30 of 92 families Pimas in process of forming new Pueblo 3 leagues away. Inhabitants Rebeico speak ova, congregated there from very distant lands. Live in flat-roofed houses.
