This correspondence covers a whole array of problems faced by the man named to supervise the expulsion of the Jesuit missionaries from the Chiguagua area and especially the Alta Tarahumar missions. A partial list of themes- Jesuit-Indian relations, Spanish-Indian relations, logistics of Jesuit expulsion, efforts to obtain secular clergy, early administration of missions and Jesuit properties including very very simple accounting and inventories, political justifications, recommendations as to new land tenure and property distribution of missions and haciendas, problems with hostile Indians, ways to administer to mission Indians etc. (D. Legal document which pertains to a suit over land and water near Querataro and which were claimed by representatives of the California missions. The land in question had been donated by the marques de Villapuente but was claimed in part by the montuzuma family. exp. 2, 4, provides original land titles and delimitation of the numerous sitios originally held by the Zapata family and capitan Acuna. Supporting documentation goes back to 1650's and essentially provides title search and history of this land for over a century. (D. Deeds) (1977)

An annual contribution of 4 pesos by each indian family; that indians form their own parishes and pay indian and Spanish religious personnel, lists suggested salaries for various personnel; that they pay 30 Spanish residents (who must be married and will populate area) to serve as defense militia; that a system of community livestock be developed (provides prices of various species); that each indian own land and pay a percentage to the church; and that funds be set aside for the king, for hospitals, and to support livestock raising. Nunez writes of Galvez' merits. Description with map of rio Mayo area, including description of clothing worn by indians, and agricultural activities. Estimates a population of 2,000 indian families living in the rio Mayo area (maybe 6,000 souls). (L. L. Woodward, August 1989)

Summary
Bucareli concedes a year of tax-exemption to pueblos around Culiacan's Jurisdiccion which were affected by floodings. This section includes an incomplete number of clauses and dispositions concerning land tenure. Each clause specifies measures, dimensions, and location of lands to be given to the Indians. The lands to be given are placed in provincias de Culiacan, along Hiaqui, el Fuerte and Mayo rivers. Copies of documents concerning notification of receipt of autos dealing with the floods which occurred in Culiacan and the tax-exempt policies to be applied to the Hiaqui and Mayo Indians, and land tenure policies. Lists of supplies of foods, salary to be paid to guide, increase of daily maintenance for every person, census of families with physical description of every individual in expedition, proposals by church to marry every girl from 12 to 18 years of age and every Boy from 24 to 12 years of age. Appointment of priest to cure families, itinerary of trip. Also, lists of expenses incurred in transportation from Veracruz to San Antonio. Maps with planned areas in which such families could settle near San Antonio without conflicting with other settlers in area drawn by marquez de Aguayo in ff. 187. Condition of those provinces (i.e. Sonora), in which Bucareli mentions various problems such as business practices of unscrupulous comerciantes espanoles, negros y pardos; depopulation of placer mines, land tenure and grazing rights problems, etc., discusses how indian population is adversely affected by abovementioned issues; orders sastre, Corbalan, to do everything in their power to correct these abuses.
