Mission Indians will be provided as auxiliaries only in case of enemy invasion of town or mission. Suggests advantages of building a fort between Guadalupe and San Marcos rivers to defend area from hostile Indians. Transfer of English castaways from English schooner to Bahia and future plans for them. Concerns use of 29 San Sabas troops for Coahuila and their return. Request for materials to build Quartel. Summary
Concerns Thobar's activities and resulting deaths in fight with Indians over horse theft. Controversy about Thobar's insubordination in not requesting fort troops and his request for detachment troops. Comanche theft of horses and oxen from missions. Describes Menchaca's use of troops and Pacheco's retreat from the Colorado River. Apaches are armed and hostile to Comanches. Mentions Demezieres' peace-seeking trip to enemy captains. Suggestions of whether or not Indians should be given arms, but discusses giving of gifts in peacemaking process. Administrative concerns over copies of letters about Demezieres' trip. Concerns need for troops and use of mission Indians to patrol because of diminishing troops due to sickness and death. Mention of Ripperda's marriage and memorial in regard to a brigadier promotion. Menchaca departs to coast with detachment to get Indians for missions of Santa Crus and padres give account of number of Indians acquired. Request for another mission in San Antonio reinforced with Indians and troops. Discussion of postal service and route and time taken to new Orleans. Indian commerce with English in guns and powder. Governor of Louisiana in agreement with Croix to gain tranquility in province. Mention of decree that Indians learn Spanish. (L. L. Woodward, April 1988)

Soto Bermudez is arrested, details for escort to royal jail. Indians take herd of oxen from Espiritu Santo mission; all but 2 oxen recovered. Detailed report of skirmish with Comanches; Comanche women fighting. Ripperda asks Martinez Pacheco for reinforcements. Valverde destroys document concerning building of 4 missions. Theft of Thobar's oxen and horse near Bexar. War with Taguayas; prisoners held, request taguaya captain to take back women and message that their warring means punishment.
