Letters (transcribed by Hidalgo in 1804) between Munoz, Serna, Buedo reporting situation between civilians, Indians near Vieja Tamaulipa Sierra. Describes civilians killing Indians, vice versa. Milicias celebrate successful campaigns by taking ears of dead Indians, displaying them on pillory. Mention of panguay treaty with J.e. Serna, by which they help Milicia exterminate other Indians. Skirmishes summarized. Mentions shipments of powder, bullets, horses, provisions to mission at Horcasitas. Buedo reports on Panguayes, Martinez Indians at mission, praising Martinez' valor. Mention of Serna taking in two Indian orphans. Cisneros' record of travels with J.e. And J.v. Serna in region surrounding Presas del Rey. J.v. is Father of J.e. Serna. (A. Dean, July 1989)

Letter describing Apache raid on Cienega. Son of Quegocga captured. Mention of war in Chiricahua mountains, Chiricahua troop and fugitives camped at Bacoachi. All of Aysose's followers in reduccion at Bacoachi, also Neya and 25 of his tribe (apparently submitted to this to be reunited with his Brother, captive elsewhere). Pozo imprisoned for trying to rally Chiricahua converts against Spaniards. Mention of Tarahumara delinquents imprisoned in Durango. 100 Tarahumaras in Sonora detachment commanded by Marrufo. Putting a halt on supplies being shipped to quiscate while giving supply of tobacco and gunpowder to group of comanches and tacahuanes preparing for battle against lipanes; virrey reminds munoz that within his province are people secretly collaborating with lipanes and urges discovery of these individuals; comanches offer to contain Apache incursions in exchange for right to settle near the Rio Grande, tahuacanes, tancahueses, and tahuayases make similar proposal in regards to lipanes; diary of daily events concerning lipanes by trevino - goes out in search of lipanes rancherias finds some abondoned settlements that evidence recent fighting (horse killed with arrow), enlists the help of taguayas(indian) in search for lipanes, finds out that lipanes have been informed of search by other spies who Spanish had been using, confrontation with lipanes with help of indians from the comanche nation and taguayazes who looted more than they fought; renewed commitment on the part of the comanches to fight against the Apaches; munoz cites linkages formed by marriages as principal reason why there are collaborators with lipanes; mentions Castro in regards to resettling of 400 comanches on the banks of the Rio Grande; report elaborating on a series of thefts and attacks committed by comanches in San Antonio and bahia del Espiritu Santo; lipanes send a 70 year old member of their nation to ask military to explain the new hostilities between the Spanish and his nation; Gomez killed and boy taken prisoner in indian attack; gives some numbers on recent thefts and attacks and who was sent out in search of indians responsible. Concerns 'conduccion' of Mecos and Aracates to 'corte de Mexico' from San Luis Potosi; Lechon assigned to lead 'collera,' which includes 69 men and women (17 couples). First folios concern assignment to Quixas of 34 Mecos (27 women, 1 whom died, 4 children, 2 babies) jailed in Tula; presumably join Lechon's 'collera.' Santiago, Aracate Indian accused of several crimes, encarcerated until 'collera' arrives. Also included are signed statements in which officials attest to presence of 'collera' and military escorts in their towns. Lechon submits itinerary/'cuenta' of expenditures; approved, but ordered to return unused portion of money allotted. (L. Kerr, June 1989)
