Summary
A Series of letters between Vaamonde and the virrey out an execution when in his area there was no official execution by using a Former Negro slave to perform the execution, orders for Vaamonde to travel to Punto de Lamparos, decree prohibiting Indians from leaving their homes unless they have necessary papers from district judge, parrish priest, or minister of documents, Vaamonde's deteriorating health during trip to Punto de lamparaos and subsequent rehabilitation in saltilo, compliance with an order to determine status of any peace initiatives with Indians of the area, the terms of any peace agreements and manner in which Indians have abided by said agreements, complying with order to make Nava inspector in addition to his current rank as comandante general and brigadier. Correspondence concerning: receipt of revistas; discovery of mines at San Nicolas; construction of mission; financial and administrative business, particularly regarding rentas; departure of ship bound for Spain carrying silver and fruit; search for pelicans per superior order of virrey, but response is that none were sighted; conflicts with many Indian groups, description of attacks on missions, haciendas, rancherias; who involved in military actions, whom killed, number of horses, mules killed or stolen by Indians; description of pursuit of Indians by military, efforts made to reduce population or to negotiate. Ff.236-241 concern allocation of funds to Coahuila troops. Following documents concern Apache attacks, for which Picax- Ande is held accountable. F.242 interpreter, soldiers sent to Picax-Ande to solicit confession. Later letters by Martinez Pacheco further Argue against Apaches. Ff.244-245, 255-256 are letters from Picax-Ande to Ugalde justifying action of his men, pleading innocence. Interesting that Picax-Ande refers to Ugalde as his Father, with veneration. (A. Letters from Ugalde to Galvez, Florez concerning attempts to pacify Mescaleros. F.145 mentions new friendship of Mescaleros, old friendship of Lipanes, and that being cultivated with Lipiyanes. F.146 mescaleros augmenting strength by allying with Borrados. F.153 mentions Carneada de Cibolos previously given to reduced Indians now apparently a bartering piece in negociations with Mescaleros. Summary
Tienda reports arrival of some Seris, and others in Cerro Prieto willing to accept pardon and live in reducciones. Seris are afraid and request some of their prisoners be released as sign of good faith. Tienda releases few and asks that Seris come to talk to him in Horcasitas. It is mentioned that Pimas are reluctant to accept peace and some of them are prisoners in Tubac and Terrenate; mention of Pima attack in Soyapa. (J. Tapia, April, 1988).

Summary
Details of expedition on Sierras de Encinillas and San Buenaventura; requests for peace by various Apache groups. Peace should only be granted to Indians who demonstrate willingness to maintain peace, ie. Do not commit any requirements for granting peace, maintaining Indians in peace; who will be granted peace, rations of food and clothing, livestock to be supplied. Reference to gifts given to Indians as token of goodwill. Specific financing of support for Indians discussed in subsequent documents (See ff 342-360). (D. Uhlman, June 1988)
