Carlos de Rivera, a merchant in San Joseph, sends Francisco de Cassas a freight hauler to Mexico City with an order for goods placed by three other persons. Tueros asks permission to travel to capital to restore health, finish la reduccion de las reales. Complains that his salary of 40 pesos/month is insufficient, he loses it all gambling. Some documents concerning his wages, salaries of companias Voluntarias. Inquiry into Tueros' involvement in gambling operation. List of charges made against Tueros includes using treasury funds to create gambling establishment in his own house; corrupting people of breeding (states la gente bulgar y pleveya son naturalmente inclinada a estos exercicios F.147), causing mine operators, merchants to lose their fortunes; making 500 pesos/year just in gambling profits. Garrido states that some of the information requested was destroyed when rebels entered the town; making copies of accounts due even though their collection is not promising, imposition of notas de embarazo on treasury, attributes diminution of rebellious activity to administrative change by king and mentions decreasing number of gunboats, ships etc. In port of Veracruz, change being the dependencia del commercio libre; remission of the accounts in question were suspended in 1810 in light of rebellion and Carvajal seeks to dissuade any notion of fraud being real reason monies were not remitted. Miyares y Mancebo writes cover letter for the assorted letters of the ministers of the real hacienda which gave explanations why accounts were not remitted to the real tribunal of each. (O. Armesto instructs Landazuri, Aguilar and Barajas to put up boundary posts (mojones) for defining taxable lands belonging to California missions. Bermudez had usurped land for cattle, sheep and horse haciendas. Ladron de Guevara carefully chronologically traces ownership of parcels in question from original grants by viceroy in 1613. Detailed information on surveying geography, and inheritance, land use, rents and improvements through 1765 to disprove Bermudez' claim of possession. Bermudez ordered to effects, etc. Found acting in bad faith; ordered to return all property illegally obtained and fined 3000 pesos. Moctezuma provided costs of damage incurred to lands by Bermudez' misuse. Interesting primarily because of prominence of several major women heirs and for extracts of 17th century land documents. (J. Calzada accuses bishop Llanos of mishandling the properties of deceased bishop Bustamante. In several letters to the virrey, Calzada trys to demonstrate that Llanos is making the matters difficult for him and he wants the virrey to remove Llanos. Llanos is commissioned by the virrey to investigate whether there was fraud in Bustamente's administration of Diezmos. Fiscales from the royal hacienda defend bishop Llanos from the attacks of Calzada. Llanos Dies and the investigation of fraud stops until it is turned over to the fiscales who slow down the investigation, avoid accusations of fraud, and try to mediate. (D. Bautista, January 1990)
