F.326 gives full title and name of Baltazar Zuniga y Gusman sottomaior y Mendez marques de Balero (virrey). Ff.334-5 list all soldiers from Chalchiguites. F.336 lists all Indians (Christian names) of Mesquital; F.337 of thenaraca; F.338 of Santa Maria de Ocotan; F.339 of Yonora. Ill health of Emparan forces him to seek cure in Orizava and abandon previous plans. Letter from Emparan's doctor verifies and describes his illness at F. 178. Illness described as scabies and its symptoms described. Cure of rest, serenity, and medication advised. Emparan remains in Orizava six months until healed. Other documents relate granting of governorship of Coahuila to Emparan. Governor's salary stated in F. 182. Emparan's post in dragones de Espana described and he is advised to reincorparate himself in said company. Emparan rejoins compania de dragones de Chalchicomula after cure from illness. (P. Document requests return to Royuela of post of ministro Pagador of treasury of Saltillo. Decree advising creation of new treasury in Saltillo. Treasury to be constructed so it may pay troops of Provincias Internas and meet their other needs. F. 98 described Royuela's previous post in Acapulco and gives his salary. Ff. 98-100 is a letter explaining role of new treasury in Saltillo and provides Royuela's salary. Other documents concern the division of powers and jurisdictions of various officials of Provincias Internas. F. 113 refers to vassals' rights and the power of king to appoint officials. Summary
Series is a reiteration of previous sequence concerning Castro's transfer from Veracruz to become governor of puerto Rico, his previous salary, his rights to export goods and money from Mexico to puerto Rico. Document extremely valuable for its descriptions of regulations concerning inter-Colonial trade such as movement of gold from Peru to Acapulco and on to Spain. F. 65 mentions real Orden of 1785 regulating transfer of money between colonies and F. 66 refers to real Orden of 1777 which treats same topic and describes Spain's policy of mercantalism - preventing said money from entering foreign markets through rigid export laws and decrees. Last folio of Series (82-83) not related to earlier ones. These folios deal with lieutenant Letrado, of Sonora, and his dispatching of important expediente. expediente's content never described. (P. Summary
Document concerns payment of salary to Castro and his embarkment from Veracruz to puerto Rico where he will assume governorship. Castro's ill health forces him to go to Mexico and delay trip. Castro's salary given. Castro requests right to freely transport luggage and other items from Mexico to puerto Rico. F. 28 gives regulations concerning quantity of money each class of military personnel is allowed to transfer from one country to another. Rest of Series concerns important rules and regulations governing Colonial trade. F. 30 mentions real Orden of 1779 establishing taxes and other rules for exporting gold and silver from America to Spain. F. 33 describes shipment of cacao from Guayaquil to Spain and import Fee levied on said shipment. 1774 decree of commerce of the quatro reynos stated relating to gold and silver from Peru and Guatemala. Taxes on gold and silver reiterated , as well as, need for laws relating to import of soldiers, wine, sugar, and fruit. Final folios resolve Castro's case and determines amount of goods he can import to puerto Rico, duty-free. (P. Lenz, March1990)

Series of letters concerning division of New Spain and creation of capitania general de Provincias Internas under the command of Croix. Discussion of all articles of royal decree for capitania, and its effect on governing of New Spain. Other letters concern viceroy's orders to officials in charge of collecting taxes and treasury department to inform Croix on a monthly Basis of the financial status of their respective offices. Viceroy also informs a number of bishoprics of Croix appointment and that he should be informed on all aspects of missions, as well of the right to appoint curatos. there is also discussion that Croix will not be in charge, for the time being, of the superintendencia general de lo gubernativo y judicial because this requires permanent residency as well as various offices equipped to handle various matters. Croix only requests use of funds from all taxable products in order to begin pacification and development of region. (J. Tapia, November 1987)
