The teniente de la justicia mayor is dispatched to inquire into the circumstances of the death of Juan Bautista Berocal. A description of the body is recorded (death was caused by both sword and dagger wounds) and testimony is taken from acquaintances. Although the evidence is less than conclusive, Francisco Canedo is placed in the public jail and - as seems to be standard in such Cases - all of his property is impounded pending disposition of the case.
