Manrique, Jose to Salcedo, Nemesio. Re: news of the arrival of a large group of anglo-americanos in Spanish territory.
Author(s)

Date

Documentation
Santa Fe. October 6, 1810. 5 pages. Informe. Original. Draft.
Summary
The governor has received conflicting reports of the arrival of Anglo-Americanos in Spanish territory. One report says that a group of some 876 Americanos are building a fort near the confluence of the rivers Napeste and Almagre. Another report denies this, but says that a number of Indian tribes have admitted that small groups of Americanos have come from time to time to trade with them, and have given them gifts of vermillon, knives, mirrors and other things. The governor, disturbed, sends a special dispatch of eleven soldiers under a corporal's command to take this information to the comandante at San Elceario. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)
